The Salsa

The Salsa was designed to be a fast, highly responsive surf kayak that meets the criteria for the Long Boat class in international surf kayak competitions. Designer Rick Starr says, “I designed the Salsa for big bottom turns and powerful cut-backs off the top. I wanted a boat that is fast enough to pull into a barrel on a big wave as well as a boat that rips turns on small, glassy shoulders. I was glad to work with Ward Coffey and Murky Watters to get a light, strong boat with really clean lines. The result is a boat that has a good balance between speed and turning ability – the Salsa dances across clean faces, and caves powerful turns on all sizes of waves.” Shaper Ward Coffey Ward says, ” My shapes always have smooth, clean transitions to allow a clean release of the water off the tail. The Salsa is designed to go edge to edge for quick turns, but also to have the speed to get down the line.”
